Chief Engineer and miracle worker Montgomery Scott was with us in the UK from the beginning as he joined the cast for the first episode every screened in the UK. Although actually Canadian he adopted a Scottish accent because he thought that Scots made the best engineers.  Scotty was actually one of my favourite characters when I was a child as I thought he was very handsome and clever and I loved the fact that he was in charge of the transporter!  Beam me up Scotty!
