The Rani was superbly played by Kate O'Mara and is a huge favourite of my friend Oliver who loves to Cosplay her. She is a renegade Time Lady and a fanatical scientist to whom everything and everyone are secondary to her work. Originally intended to be a long running adversary for the Doctor, she actually only appeared in two episodes in1985 and 1987 opposite the Sixth and Seventh Doctors.
