Leela, played by the very lovely Louise Jameson was a companion to the Fourth Doctor from 1977 to 1978 and appeared in 40 episodes.  She was feisty and strong and didn't need anyone to defend her as she was more than capaple of doing that job herself!  Louise was so lovely to us when we met her.  We have seen her twice and the first time I was not very well, the second time (some years later) she remembered that I hadnt been well and asked after me specifically!  What a wonderful lady!
