Janeway is the Captain of the starship Voyager, which becomes stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Although other female captains had appeared in previous Star Trek episodes, she is the only one to serve as the central character of a Star Trek TV series. Janeway has been rated as one of the best Star Trek captains and her story arc of having to integrate a largely non star fleet crew into her command with intelligence and sensitivity while stranded 70,000 light years from home certainly backs that up.
